NNI’s TENANT ADVOCATE PROGRAM

TAPs community resources and works with tenants and tenant councils at the properties we manage to support residents with programs that can improve their lives and their neighborhoods.
Because we are affordable housing developers and builders and property managers, not a human services or social services agency, we have teamed up with established local and regional agencies with track records of providing a range of programs that could benefit our tenants.

Two full time TAP coordinators work in close consultation with NNI Property Managers, encouraging and supporting tenants to TAP into their unique needs and dreams.

TAP coordinators work one-on-one and with groups to connect NNI residents with programs that target self-sufficiency and life skills goals such as:

– employment and job advancement
– eviction prevention
– health care screening
– credit repair and budgeting
– home ownership
– after-school programs
– aging in place
– neighborhood improvement

The 1st PIZZA, BOOKS & STORIES at NNI’s MLK Jr. Apts, in June, was great success.

MLK tenants, the United Way of Western Connecticut and their volunteers from Target, Guardsmark, Frontier Communications, and GASB among others collaborated on a fun and pizza-filled afternoon of reading that TAP will be working with tenants to repeat on a regular basis. Starting at MLK, TAP coordinators are eager to introduce the program to tenants at other NNI properties.

Tenants at NNI’s Belltown Manor apartments for seniors have started a garden to grow flowers and fresh vegetables. Starting small, plans are to expand in size and scope as funds for material and supplies become available.
